The Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship (GTF) is a two-year professional development opportunity for educators in collaboration with Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic. Through a competitive application process, 50 prek-12 educators from across the United States and Canada were selected for this incredible learning opportunity in 2023.
GTF was established in 2006 by Sven-Olaf Lindblad to celebrate Gilbert M. Grosvenor's 75th birthday. Gilbert M. Grosvenor previously served as editor for the National Geographic Society and was a champion of geographic education.
Each GTF will embark on an expedition aboard one of Lindblad's world-class ships. Traveling with an explorers mindset, fellows return to their classrooms and communities with fresh ideas to strengthen geographic awareness.
The fellowship is a two-year program. All the fellows attend a workshop at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C., go on their expeditions, and then extend their learning from their expedition in their classrooms and community.
My expedition is a 10-day expedition aboard the state-of-the-art ice vessel, the National Geographic Explorer, to circumnavigate Iceland. Through this 100% carbon-neutral travel experience, I aim to explore, learn, and discover how to better care for the planet.
My journey will begin and end in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. Daily excursions with expertly trained naturalists ensure a valuable learning experience on the island of fire and ice.
